Experimental releases
Experimental releases of genetically modified, pathogenic or alien organisms require authorisation. Applications to release organisms are submitted to the SECB for its consideration of possible risks to humans and the environment.
The Release Ordinance forms the legal basis for the evaluation of experimental releases. This Ordinance regulates the requirements for handling genetically modified, pathogenic or alien organisms in the environment. The Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) sends the applications to the SECB for its Statement. The SECB Statements are published only after the regulatory authority has made its decision.
